ELMS campaign resumes at Spa-Francorchamps

Proton Competition are set to return to action in the European Le Mans Series, as the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (22 to 24 August) kicks off the second half of the season. With the summer break offering the team a valuable chance to rest and recharge, preparations are now in full swing as the team’s three cars gear up for the final three rounds of the season.

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is something akin to Proton Competition’s second home, with Christian and Michael Ried’s team having competed a total of 65 cars in 29 races at the Ardennes circuit in the team’s almost 30-year history. In that span, the squad has collected six class victories and a further twelve podium finishes.

For the tenth running of the ELMS’ Belgian round in its current form, Jonas Ried, Macéo Capietto and Matteo Cairoli will be aiming to build on their momentum in the #9 Oreca 07 after securing a strong fourth-place overall finish last time out at Imola.

In the LMP2 Pro-Am class, René Binder, Giorgio Roda and Bent Viscaal will be hoping to replicate their 2024 success in the #77 Oreca 07, where they claimed a class podium. Currently sitting second in the championship – just four points adrift of the leaders – the trio are keen to turn up the pressure on their title rivals at Spa-Francorchamps.

The only change to the Proton Competition driver squad in Belgium comes in the LMGT3 class, where Hong Kong driver Antares Au will pilot the #60 Porsche 911 GT3 R alongside regulars Matteo Cressoni and Alessio Picariello.
