2024 – now: Partnering with the Blue Oval
Ford returned to the global endurance stage in 2024 with the debut of the Ford Mustang LMGT3, coinciding with the introduction of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s new LMGT3 category.
This marked the beginning of a new chapter in Ford’s storied history in endurance racing. As the official partner team for the FIA WEC campaign, Proton Competition has been part of the Mustang’s journey from day one.
What is special about this car?
The 5.4-litre, naturally aspirated V8 certainly made its presence felt in the series. As our current contender in the LMGT3 class of the WEC, we are still writing history with this car.
As seasoned campaigners of the Porsche 911 in its many iconic forms, we’re no strangers to cars with cult status. With its unmistakable sound and distinctive character, the Ford Mustang LMGT3 has quickly become a fan favorite on the FIA WEC grid.

Success came in the first year of the Ford programme, with Giorgio Roda, Mikkel Pedersen and Dennis Olsen scoring a Le Mans podium in the new Mustang LMGT3 in 2024.
What have we achieved with this car?
The 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans marked our 16th appearance at the endurance classic – but our first time competing with a manufacturer other than Porsche. Rising to the challenge, we drew on our wealth of experience as Giorgio Roda, Mikkel Pedersen, and Dennis Olsen delivered a strong performance to secure a podium finish in third place.

Proton Competition continues to compete against the creme de la creme of GT3 racing with Ford, as the FIA WEC going from strength to strength.
What does this partnership mean for Proton Competition?
Becoming Ford’s official partner team in the FIA WEC marked a milestone in Proton Competition’s history. After more than two decades of racing exclusively with Porsche, the collaboration with Ford signalled the start of a new manufacturer partnership. The significance is heightened by the fact that it is a works-supported programme, while Proton continues to compete in Hypercar as a privateer with Porsche.
This partnership has positioned us at the forefront of the LMGT3 era, giving the team the opportunity to help shape the Mustang’s international racing journey from its very first season. It underscores our evolution from a privateer outfit into a trusted works partner – while staying true to the team’s DNA.
