WEC season heats up as second half begins in Brazil
The FIA World Endurance Championship is entering its decisive phase, with Proton Competition heading to Interlagos, Brazil, for round five of the 2025 season. The 6 Hours of São Paulo on 13 July at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace will present a unique challenge for the team – not least due to the circuit’s elevation, which sits more than 800 metres above sea level, and notoriously changeable weather.
Proton Competition will once again be competing for honours in both classes of the FIA WEC, entering its #99 Porsche 963 in the Hypercar category and a pair of Ford Mustang LMGT3 in the LMGT3 class.
Off the back of the crew’s strong finish in Le Mans, Neel Jani will once again be partnering up with Chile’s Nicolas Pino and Argentina’s Nicolás Varrone in the #99 car for the series’ sole visit to Latin America on the 2025 calendar.
The LMGT3 line-ups also remain unchanged, with Bernardo Sousa, Ben Tuck and Ben Barker continuing in the #77 Ford Mustang LMGT3, while Stefano Gattuso, Giammarco Levorato and Dennis Olsen return in the #88.
For Sousa, the Brazilian round of the FIA WEC calendar holds special significance: “Brazil will be my home race as Portugal is not part of the calendar this year. We share the same language, my wife is from Brazil – so this feels kind of like my second home. We had ups and downs this season, but we have the speed. The weather is always a bit tricky here, so it will be a difficult one, but we will try our best to get a top result.”
Fans can catch all the action from the weekend on FIA WEC TV as well as on Eurosport.
