Proton Competition leads the standings heading into the season finale

Following a chaotic race weekend at the Nürburgring (14–16 August), Proton Competition driver Keagan Masters heads to Hockenheim for the season finale of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland as the championship leader; the team also tops the team standings. Robert de Haan wins in the Eifel.

South African driver Masters arrived at the Nürburgring with a 14-point lead. However, he suffered an initial setback on Saturday. Following an accidental collision with a rival, Masters was penalised and failed to score any points. On Sunday, the fast driver fought his way back to finish fourth, meaning he retains the championship lead and holds a seven-point advantage ahead of the finale at Hockenheim.

“The weekend at the Nürburgring was a real rollercoaster for us. In the first race, we didn’t get the best result after the two penalty laps. But on Sunday we fought our way back to fourth place and put in a strong performance. I’m happy with the result, as we gave it our absolute best. I’m already looking forward to the next races,” said Keagan Masters.

On Saturday, last year’s champion Robert de Haan secured his first win of the season in the German Carrera Cup during his second race weekend of the year with the team from Hofkirchen. The Dutchman led from the front throughout the race and secured a dominant victory. “Because of the heat, sweat was running into my eyes at one point and I was a bit worried when everyone bunched up again due to the safety car. But in the end, I’m happy with the win and my performance,” said de Haan after the gruelling race. On Sunday, he failed to score any points.

Dylan Yip finished the two races in sixth and fifth places in the rookie standings. He narrowly missed out on points in the overall standings on both occasions. The two reserve drivers, Milan Marczak and Lukas Sundahl, had to get used to the Porsche 911 Cup cars (992.2 generation) at the Nürburgring, which were unfamiliar to them. After finishing 15th on Saturday, Marczak retired on Sunday following a collision. Sundahl finished 18th on Sunday.

“What a challenging weekend at the Nürburgring! The conditions pushed everyone to their physical limits, and on top of that, it was two chaotic races in the Eifel. We’re delighted that Keagan will head to the finale at Hockenheim as championship leader and that we’re also leading the team standings. We’ll give it our all to secure both titles at Hockenheim! We were also very pleased with Robert’s strong performance and well-deserved victory on Saturday,” said Michael Dirsch, who heads Proton Competition’s programme in the series.

The season finale of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschlanf at the Hockenheimring will take place from 9 to 11 October. The Proton Competition team will be fighting for its third consecutive title in this highly competitive racing series.
