Success at two circuits

At the Norisring, Proton Competition driver Keagan Masters reclaimed the lead in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland standings. The team also celebrated a class victory at the 12 Hours of the Nürburgring.

South African Keagan Masters capitalised on the misfortune of his championship rivals at the Norisring to reclaim the lead in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland standings. Masters put in a strong performance on Germany’s only street circuit, finishing second in both races. As a result, after six of eight race weekends, he now holds a 14-point lead over his closest rival. In the team standings, Proton Competition leads by a comfortable margin of 59 points. “I’m very happy to be back at the top of the standings,” said Masters.

Robert de Haan, the reigning German Carrera Cup champion, made his comeback for Proton Competition at the Norisring, replacing Marcus Amand, who was unable to compete due to a scheduling clash. At the start of the first race, however, the Dutchman was innocently knocked off the track. The mechanics of the Hofkirchen-based team worked through the night to enable the 20-year-old to start the second race in a replacement car. De Haan repaid their efforts with an impressive comeback: starting from last on the grid, he fought his way up to tenth place.

Gustav Bergström delivered his best race to date in the German Carrera Cup in the first race, finishing in seventh place. This also saw the Swede claim victory in the rookie standings. Dylan Yip also took a place on the rookie podium in third on Saturday. Daniel Ros picked up further vital points at the Norisring, finishing in tenth and ninth places. Supercup driver Kai Pfister made a guest appearance at the Norisring and finished on the podium in the Pro-Am class in both races.

“We’re delighted that Keagan was able to take the lead in the championship at the Norisring and build up a slight advantage. I’m also very pleased with the performance of our other drivers, who all put in strong performances at the Norisring,” said Michael Dirsch. “A big thank you also goes to the mechanics, who worked through the night to ensure Robert could start on Sunday.”

At the same time, the 24h Series made its debut at the Nürburgring, hosting a 12-hour race there. Jörg Dreisow, Manuel Lauck, Constantin Dressler and Porsche contracted driver Joel Sturm drove the team’s Porsche 911 GT3 R. Following a strong performance, the quartet won the race in the GT3 Pro-Am class and celebrated their second victory of the season. Ahead of the season finale at the 24h Barcelona in September, the Porsche team currently occupies second place in the Pro-Am class championship standings, trailing the leaders by twelve points.
