Eyeing top finish in Fuji as FIA WEC season reaches final stage

The 6 Hours of Fuji (25 to 27 September) marks the next challenge for Proton Competition in the FIA World Endurance Championship, with the 2026 season entering its final stage. With just three races remaining, Christian and Michael Ried’s squad will be looking to build on its best result of the season at the previous round at the Circuit of the Americas and challenge at the sharp end of the LMGT3 field.

Fuji Speedway has proved a happy hunting ground for the German team in the past, with two FIA WEC class victories and three podium finishes to its name at the Japanese circuit. The focus now turns to maximising the performance of the team’s two Ford Mustang LMGT3 as Proton Competition targets its breakthrough result of the 2026 season.

Eric Powell, Sebastian Priaulx and Ben Tuck will once again share the #77 Mustang, while Stefano Gattuso, Giammarco Levorato and Logan Sargeant will take the wheel of the #88 car. Both crews demonstrated race-leading pace at the previous round in the United States and will be looking to carry that momentum into the Far East.

“My last time at Fuji was in 2022 but I love that place – it’s an amazing track,” said Priaulx. “I’m really looking forward to getting back there, as the fans are so enthusiastic. We’re getting closer each time to that podium so I think we’re due one now. The car was strong there last year so I’m feeling positive going into this one.”
 
At 4.563 kilometres in length, Fuji Speedway combines one of the longest straights in motorsport with a flowing and technically demanding infield section, creating a unique challenge for drivers and teams alike. With weather conditions often playing a significant role at the circuit, maintaining focus and adapting quickly will be key to achieving a strong result.
 
The race will be broadcast live and in full on free-to-air channel Eurosport 1 in Germany and will also be available worldwide via the FIA WEC+ streaming service.
