New challenge in FIA WEC awaits at Barcelona

Proton Competition returns to FIA World Endurance Championship action for the penultimate round of the season, with the 6 Hours of Barcelona taking place from 16 to 18 October. The event presents a unique challenge for Christian and Michael Ried’s team, as the FIA WEC makes its first visit to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The German outfit will field its pair of Ford Mustang LMGT3, with two familiar line-ups ready to take on the six-hour contest. Eric Powell, Ben Tuck and Sebastian Priaulx will share the #77 entry, arriving in Barcelona fresh from securing pole position at the most recent FIA WEC round at Fuji Speedway. Meanwhile, Stefano Gattuso, Giammarco Levorato and Logan Sargeant will once again join forces aboard the #88 car.

“I’m excited to be back in Barcelona for the first time in a GT3 car,” said Sargeant. “It’s a track I’ve always been fond of, which brings a lot of challenges from many corner types along with high tyre degradation. It’s always a fun place to go racing, and we look forward to what will hopefully be a successful weekend.”

While some FIA WEC competitors may lack experience at the venue, Proton Competition can look back on a rich history of success in Barcelona. Ten previous appearances at the Spanish circuit across other series provide a solid foundation as the team prepares to take on the fiercely competitive LMGT3 field.

Those outings have yielded four class victories, all in the European Le Mans Series. The most recent triumph came at the 2026 season opener in March, offering further encouragement ahead of the team’s latest challenge in Spain.

Featuring 14 corners and a total length of 4.657km, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya blends fast, flowing corners with more technical sections as Proton Competition’s pair of Ford Mustang LMGT3 go head-to-head against 16 other cars representing eight different manufacturers. Fans can catch all the action from the weekend on the FIA WEC’s streaming service FIA WEC+.
